Canada’s first ever street track meet in downtown Calgary. The Calgary Track Takeover will bring some of Canada’s top male and female Olympic performers to Olympic Plaza to compete in the following 3 events; 100M dash, Pole vault, and high jump. Come out and watch!
A FREE ALL-AGES Mini Pow Wow featuring traditional drumming, song and dance, a meet and greet, workshop and mini-performance with Hip-Hop duos Snotty Nose Rez Kids and Mob Bounce, and a selection of films from imagineNATIVE – the world’s largest presenter of Indigenous film. A day of FREE cultural events: tipi painting, dancers, drumming and storytelling from community leaders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers. Pull up a blanket and celebrate the longest day of the year with diverse stories about the cultural significance of tipis in the Treaty 7 region of southern Alberta. Just an hour's drive from DW! Mountains, beers, laughs… it worked in 2017 and now the Canmore International Improv Festival (CIIF) returns with an expanded line-up of 10 shows at Artsplace...
The 2nd annual CIIF features an international cast of A-list performers! The Improvised Musical, an Olivier award-winning show from London, England. Norway, France and Holland are all represented, along with western Canada’s brightest and funniest improv performers. This year, CIIF is adding an original kids’ show for Saturday and Sunday matinees.
Sled Island's thoughtful, eclectic programming and independent spirit fuse to produce a one-of-a-kind festival experience. Each June, the five-day music and arts festival brings together a community of more than 250 bands, comedy, film and art as well as over 30,000 attendees in more than 35 venues, earning rave reviews from attendees, artists and media across the globe.
Last year, VegFest Calgary hosted over 8,000 veg and veg-curious Calgarians for an immersive vegan experience featuring industry speakers, talented musicians, cooking demos, local businesses, and a large selection of mouth-watering fare. This year will have MORE speakers, cooking demos, vendors, a VEGAN-CERTIFIED BEER GARDENS in partnership with Cold Garden Beverage Company, and DJs.
F5K Calgary event is to raise awareness about food waste & to show YYC that we can Feed 5k people with food that would otherwise end up in a landfill! What is Disability Pride? It’s about being happy with who you are and sharing yourself with the people around you! We will celebrate what makes us each unique and how much we all have in common.
ALL CALGARIANS ARE INVITED! Gather at either side of the bridge. (NOTE: bridge will be closed to traffic at 11:30am.)
This afternoon event opens at the N side (Memorial Dr & 4 St NE) with a gathering of Elders. Ceremonial blessings will be led by territorial Elders, who will then participate in a prayer circle with youth from their communities, and make a solemn walk across the bridge. Participation in the prayer circle is limited to invited guests only, but all Calgarians are invited to walk across the bridge following the Elders.
The event will continue on the south side of the bridge with flag songs, drumming, speeches, and a round dance. We hope to see you there!
